Motorcyclist injured in multi-vehicle accident

Motorcycle riders are at a disadvantage when compared with occupants of larger motor vehicles. Not only do drivers frequently forget to look for motorcycles, but riders may also be at a higher risk for injury during wrecks. For example, a motorcyclist in Tennessee was the only victim to suffer a personal injury in a recent motor vehicle accident.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the wreck happened right as a female motorcyclist merged onto I-40 behind a tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer applied his or her brakes in a way that did not give the motorcyclist time to slow down or avoid a collision. Instead, she laid the motorcycle down on its side and slid across the roadway until hitting the rear of the large truck.

There were two other vehicles -- a minivan and regular-sized van -- behind the motorcycle who were also merging onto the interstate at the time. The minivan managed to stop in time, but the van behind it apparently did not notice this. The van rear ended the minivan, which caused it to move forward and strike the motorcycle and back of the tractor-trailer. The motorcyclist was the only person injured in the collision.

An accident that involves more than one vehicle is especially complex. Injury victims in Tennessee know that getting compensation is an important component of recovery, but many are not sure how to determine fault in these situations. Rather than give up on seeking compensation, it can be helpful to consider whether speaking with an experienced attorney could clarify things.
