Tennessee readers of this blog may be interested to know that the daughter of comedian Joan Rivers has initiated a medical malpractice lawsuit against the medical clinic and the physicians who were in charge of the medical procedure that claimed her mother's life. What was supposed to be a routine medical procedure caused Joan Rivers to stop breathing, and she later died as a result of complications. Now, the parties who were allegedly responsible will have to face the wrongful death claim in court.
Joan Rivers' daughter said that pursuing the wrongful death claim was a very difficult decision for her to make. She said that it was her belief that no one should ever have to experience what she and her family have had to endure. She said that the level of incompetence, medical mismanagement, outrageous behavior and disrespect has been shocking and nearly incomprehensible.
Joan Rivers was a successful comedian who often appeared on television with her daughter. She passed away at the age of 81 on Sept. 4. According to the medical examiner's report, Rivers passed away as a result of a brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation, which resulted from a cessation of breathing while receiving an endoscopy. In medical terminology, her cause of death was labeled a therapeutic complication.
It is sad that this great woman's life was cut short due to allegedly unnecessary complications during a routine medical procedure. Unfortunately, no amount of legal proceedings will ever bring back a loved one who dies. However, in cases that involve negligence, Tennessee families may be able to achieve some level of justice through the pursuit of a wrongful death claim, and this may assist them as they grieve for their loved one.
