In early January, a young mother died in a car accident caused by an alleged drunk driver. Her family is mourning her loss while also asking for justice to be served. The woman, who was only 19 years of age, had a 1-year-old daughter, and she was pregnant with her second child. The unborn child was also killed in the Tennessee accident. The heartbroken family of the victim has made a statement to those that drink and drive, asking them to be more responsible and think of others before they get behind the wheel.
According to police, the accident occurred while the young woman and three of her friends were riding home from a nightclub. They were given the ride home by an unknown driver. The friends who were in the car told the pregnant victim's relatives that it was a man who goes by Duke. They also said he was drunk at the time of the crash.
Investigations into the cause of this car accident continue. However, from the accident scene, it is known that the car hit two trees and a home before it came to a rest. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene following the accident. As of Jan. 6, he was still at large.
Depending on the results of the investigation, this family may be able to seek financial relief to help them care for the victim's surviving daughter. Indeed, the additional cost of caring for her will put a financial burden on the family that would likely not have been there had the mother survived this tragic Tennessee accident. If they are able to document that the driver was negligent in a manner that caused the fatal car accident, a civil court will consider their claims for reimbursement of financial losses sustained.
