Information is still being gathered about a fatal accident at a truck stop on Nov. 22, according to law enforcement sources. A Tennessee woman is dead and another person is injured after a car accident on Interstate 40. Police are working to determine the cause of the accident and allocate culpability.
Tennessee Highway Patrol estimates the crash occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the westbound lane of I-40 in Henderson County. According to experts, it appears the female victim unexpectedly struck a truck parked in a designated parking area. Medical personnel arriving on the scene declared her dead upon their arrival. There is no word as to whether anyone was in the truck at the time.
A second individual was also injured during this crash, though it is not known how this individual was related to the situation -- whether he or she was a passenger in the victim's car, the driver of the truck, or a passerby. The injuries sustained by this unknown person are also not known. Police are still working to determine what precipitated the collision and no charges have been filed. The truck was legally parked at the time of the accident, so it seems unlikely the driver would be found responsible for the crash.
Tennessee officials have a lot of work to do before this car accident can be resolved in a legal capacity. Based on the limited evidence presented so far, it would appear likely that the female victim was responsible in some way for the accident. If this is the case, the injured party may decide to pursue her right to file a personal injury lawsuit against the deceased driver's estate for damages incurred in the crash.
