An accident can happen when we least expect them to - at any time and in any place. Most Tennessee residents take care when they are driving on the road to avoid an unnecessary accident. However, some individuals are reckless, drive drunk, and commit traffic violations with zero regard for the safety of their fellow citizens. When someone is injured or killed due to another person's malfeasance and/or negligence that person (or his family members) can pursue a personal injury claim to seek justice.
Recently, an argument broke out between too people outside a Fayetteville, Tennessee dollar store. A woman was having a verbal altercation with her boyfriend in the parking area. A police officer was flagged down by the boyfriend.
While the police officer was talking to the pair, the officer found out the woman had allegedly stolen some meat. The officer proceeded to arrest the woman on allegations of theft. However, the woman broke free and stole the officer patrol car.
The woman escaped in the car, ran through a red light and crashed into an SUV. A passenger, aged 55, who was riding inside the SUV was killed. Four others inside the SUV were taken to the hospital to get treatment for injuries.
Whenever a Tennessee resident breaks the law and causes an accident resulting in injuries and/or death, victims of the accident can file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. Compensation pursuable through a personal injury lawsuit can include money for medical care. In the case that a victim is killed, family members can also seek money as compensation to cover end of life expenses, and other damages.
