Last week, attorney James Logan took to trial an important dispute between Sullivan County and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Logan was chosen to represent Sullivan County in this dispute following his success in a similar case in Bradley County.
The dispute in this case involves the initial demands of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department for an additional nine million dollars of funding to be added to their budget. Mr. Logan successfully reduced the amount of the dispute after a motion for summary judgment to approximately one million dollars. The impact of the decision regarding this case will determine how Sheriff's Departments are able to raise their budget on a yearly basis and what can be done by the County in order to contain those budgets to reasonable amounts.
